Liverpool will be able to welcome back Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for their Premier League opener against Norwich, but will be without Andy Robertson.
Both have returned from long-term injuries and were able to get a number of minutes under their belts during pre-season in a huge boost for the Reds’ tilt at the title.
“I think so, it looks like [they are available to start],” said Jurgen Klopp on Friday. “But how it is with these kind of things, we have nothing to rush in this department.”
However, Robertson was less fortunate and faces a few weeks out with ankle ligament damage, meaning Kostas Tsimikas is expected to build on his six Premier League minutes last season with a start – take note FPL players.
James Milner is likely to get the nod in midfield alongside Fabinho given Jordan Henderson’s lack of fitness, while Naby Keita and Harvey Elliott vie for the third slot.
13 months after being relegated from the Premier League, Norwich City are back in the topflight of English football at Carrow Road on Saturday (5.30pm KO).
Liverpool are the visitors as we begin our 2021/22 campaign in front of a capacity crowd for the first time since February 2020.
After finishing third in the league last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be keen to close the gap on Manchester United and Manchester City this time around.
Pre-season has provided a selection of mostly positive results. Liverpool trained for three weeks in Austria, where they drew against Wacker Innsbruck and VfB Stuttgart, before beating Mainz 05 and losing to Hertha BSC.
They then spent a week in France and beat Bologna twice before returning to Anfield in the week leading up to the Premier League.
Athletic Bilbao held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw before the Reds ended pre-season with a 3-1 win against Osasuna.
Ibrahima Konate is the club’s only signing of the summer so far, reinforcing their defence. Georginio Wijnaldum and Marko Grujic are among those to have left Merseyside.
